For a world of work free from violence and harassment
The #RatifyC190 Campaign
Since 2018, ActionAid International, CARE, International Trade Union Confederation - Asia Pacific, and International Women’s Rights Action Watch - Asia Pacific have been collaborating in Asia to support the passing of International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 190 and Recommendation 206. In June 2019, after years of campaigning by trade unions, civil society, and women’s organizations, the aforesaid Convention and Recommendation were passed. Along with partners around the world, we celebrated the adoption of the first-ever global treaty on violence and harassment in the world of work.
But the work is not done. For real change to happen nationally and at the grassroots level, the Convention must be ratified by the member states of the ILO. Ratification of a Convention means that member states commit themselves to applying the provisions of the Convention in national laws and practices and reporting its application regularly.
Four countries have ratified so far (Fiji, Namibia, Uruguay, and Argentina), but our aspiration is to get the ILO Convention 190 ratified by all ILO member states.
Thus, we are campaigning to push for the ratification of the ILO Convention 190, especially across Asia Pacific. We do this by mobilising our constituents in public and online campaigns, engaging with governments, raising awareness on violence and harassment at the workplace, and many more.
